SUBMITTING MATERIAL
I. Submission and Publication Policy
1. Scope of the Journal
Philologia Classica welcomes original scholarly contributions related to classical philology and the wider field of classical studies. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Classical Greek and Latin literature
- Ancient Greek and Latin language studies
- Textual criticism and manuscript studies
- Papyrology and epigraphy
- Indo-European linguistics
- Ancient philosophy and religion
- Classical art and material culture
- Ancient Judaism and early Christianity
- Reception of classical heritage in medieval, Byzantine, and modern European traditions
- History of classical scholarship
Submitted manuscripts must represent original research and must not have been published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere. All submissions are expected to comply with accepted standards of academic integrity and publication ethics.
Every manuscript undergoes a double-blind peer review process.
2. Article Requirements
The journal publishes research articles that address significant scholarly questions through detailed source analysis and engagement with existing academic literature.
- Recommended maximum length: approximately 60,000 characters, including references, abstracts, footnotes, and keywords
- Narrative or non-analytical works are generally not accepted
- Exceptions regarding article length may be approved by the Editor-in-Chief
3. Languages of Publication
Manuscripts may be submitted in the following languages:
- English
- Russian
- German
- French
- Italian
- Latin
Articles concerning Russian classical scholarship or the reception of antiquity in Russia are generally published in Russian. Authors submitting manuscripts in a non-native language are encouraged to ensure professional language editing before submission.
4. Abstracts and Keywords
All submissions must include:
- An abstract of approximately 200–250 words
- Up to 10 keywords
Abstracts and keywords should be provided in English and Russian whenever possible. If authors are unable to prepare Russian translations, editorial assistance may be provided.
5. Submission Procedure
Authors should submit manuscripts electronically in both Word and PDF formats.
Submissions should be sent to the editorial office together with a separate author information file containing:
- Full name
- Academic degree and title
- Institutional affiliation and position
- Full institutional address with postal code
- Contact telephone number
- Email address
- Title of the article
Suggested file naming format:
Surname_articleSurname_information
6. Review and Editorial Decision
All manuscripts are evaluated according to the journal’s peer review policy. Final publication decisions are made by the Editorial Board following expert review.
7. Publication Agreement
Authors whose manuscripts are accepted for publication are required to sign a publication or license agreement before publication.
8. Publication Fees
To support the editorial process, peer review management, online publication, website maintenance, indexing services, and long-term digital archiving, Philologia Classica applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) of $500 USD for manuscripts accepted for publication.
II. Manuscript Formatting Guidelines
1. File Format
Articles must be submitted in:
- Microsoft Word format
- PDF format
2. Text Formatting
Recommended formatting standards:
- Font: Times New Roman or equivalent Unicode-compatible font
- Main text size: 12 pt
- Footnotes and block quotations: 10 pt
- Margins: 2 cm on all sides
- Page size: A4
- Orientation: Portrait
- Greek text must use Unicode fonts
3. Anonymous Review Preparation
For initial submission, manuscripts must not contain information identifying the author.
The first page should include:
- Article title in the language of publication
- English title
- Abstract
- Keywords
Author names and affiliations should be omitted during anonymous review.
4. Final Accepted Version
After acceptance, authors must submit the final version including:
- UDC classification index
- Full article title
- Author names
- Institutional affiliation and postal address
- ORCID ID
- Email address
- Abstract and keywords
For multilingual submissions, translated titles, abstracts, and author information may also be required.
5. Quotations and Examples
Extended quotations from Greek or Latin texts should:
- Be separated from the main text
- Use smaller font size
- Include proper source citation
- Be accompanied by translations into the article language
Short quotations within the text should follow standard quotation practices appropriate to the article language.
6. Notes, Tables, and Figures
- Notes should appear as footnotes
- Tables and figures must be numbered and referenced in the text
- Captions should appear directly above tables and below figures
- Authors are responsible for securing permission for copyrighted images or visual materials
III. References and Bibliography
1. Citation Style
References should generally follow the author-date system:
(Smith 2020, 45)(Brown, White 2018)(Johnson et al. 2019)
Multiple references should be separated by semicolons.
2. References to Ancient Authors
Classical references should follow internationally recognized scholarly abbreviations and citation standards commonly used in classical studies.

3. Bibliography
The bibliography should appear at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order.
General recommendations:
- Use full publication details
- Preserve consistent formatting throughout
- Capitalize significant words in English titles
- Include access dates for online resources
4. Transliteration
For Russian-language references and bibliographies, internationally accepted transliteration standards should be used where required.
License Agreement
All content published on the journal website is protected by copyright and intellectual property regulations.
Authors publishing in Philologia Classica are required to sign an appropriate license agreement before publication. The journal provides open access to its published materials in support of the broad international dissemination of scholarly research.
Authors retain rights in accordance with the terms outlined in the journal’s publication agreement and open-access policies.

Articles published in Philologia Classica are distributed under the journal’s open-access policy, allowing academic sharing and scholarly use in accordance with the applicable license terms.
Privacy Statement
Personal information, including names and email addresses submitted to the journal, will be used exclusively for editorial and publication purposes. Such information will not be shared with third parties or used for unrelated activities.
